Tray
A parallelepiped unit of stock from which plates, bridges and other components are manufactured, either on CNC machines or by spark machining.
Lapping
Operation consisting in removing a large amount of stock, using cast iron plates as a support for the abrasive slurry
Polishing
Operation consisting in achieving a scratch-free surface finish
Flat black polished
A watchmaking term defining a perfect surface finish, which looks black under a certain light incidence angle.
Flat polishing
Operation consisting in obtaining a “flat black polished” surface finish
Mechanochemistry
Use of a chemical additive, in addition to the lapping / polishing slurry, to promote the stock removal rate and/or make it easier to obtain a particular surface finish.
